This traditional (& non-traditional) Jewish blessing for the home was commissioned as a wedding gift for a couple who share my love of the darker side of Jewish folklore & art! It features a “flaming serpent” as an angelic guardian keeping a host of creatures of the night at bay.

These pendants combine my love of miniatures, jewelry, Jewish history & folklore – they’re based on real artifacts, and while I can’t recreate the Aramaic writing (I use impressionistic marks at this scale!), the demon & sorcerer drawings at the center of each bowl are faithful reproductions.

Each bowl averages between 1-2″ in diameter.

The story of the golem is one of the most widely known pieces of Jewish folklore, having inspired many different forms of historic and contemporary art. I started making my own “pocket golems” in 2019 in response to feeling a need for small, tangible reminders of Jewish resilience & resistance. Since then I’ve created over 200 of these little guardians and shipped them all over the world.

Another collaboration with Gabriel Robinson (Glowing Roots Press), Token is a two-player TTRPG about monstrous love and the strange offerings that bring people together.

As a lifelong klezmer fan, I loved working with musician Jordan Wax on hand-lettering, art & layout design for two albums – the 7″ EP Kishinev in Galisteo and the 12″ LP Taytsh / The Heart Deciphers from Borscht Beat records. (cover photography by Annie Quick)

I was one of two illustrators for the Jewish TTRPG Beyond the Pale, created by Yochai Gal and published by Lost Pages. My work focused mainly on location maps & creature design, but I also provided some graphic design elements in the form of the logo and symbols for the magic system.

Illustrating the dust jackets for the OwlCrate special editions of the Witch’s Compendium of Monsters series (Foul Days and Monstrous Nights) by Genoveva Dimova was an opportunity for me to really learn a new program – both wraparound book covers were made entirely digitally in Procreate.

The intricate designs for the hardcover foil on the OwlCrate special edition of Laura Samovin’s The Sins On Their Bones were based on the havdalah ceremony marking the end of Shabbat, with additional gothic elements suited to this dark Jewish fantasy story.

Death Strikes: The Emperor of Atlantis is a graphic novel adaptation of an anti-fascist opera written in 1943 by two Jewish prisoners in TerezĂn concentration camp. I worked with writer Dave Maass to develop character & prop designs that integrated historic material with contemporary influences, and my paintings & sketches were used by artist Patrick Lay to develop the final sequential art.
